Education and Career Guidance talks to Food Science & Technology Students

10 Sep 2020

The Food Science & Technology (DFST) course is committed to provide Education and Career Guidance Talks to our Year 1 students, for them to network and learn from our alumni about possible future careers within the food industry.

We have invited three SP alumni to share their careers and related education experiences with our DFST students online. Our alumni guests, Gaven Low (Area Sales Manager at Olam Cocoa Pte Ltd), Lim Chon Kah (Regulatory Affairs Specialist at Abbott Laboratories (Singapore) Pte Ltd) and Daniel Chia (Head of Human Resources at Samsung Asia Pte Ltd); each from a different field of work in the food industry offered great insights from their past/existing careers in areas including food innovation, food regulatory affairs and food sales and business development.

Mr Gaven Low, Area Sales Manager at Olam Cocoa Pte Ltd

Mr Lim Chon Kah, Regulatory Affairs Specialist at Abbott Laboratories (Singapore) Pte Ltd

Mr Daniel Chia, Head of Human Resources at Samsung Asia Pte Ltd

There were more than 100 attendees including students and staff. Through these meaningful talks, our students also learnt more about the relevant technical and soft skills required to be a suitable fit for these careers in the food industry.

Student Feedback on the career talks:

"I learned about the plethora of jobs available in the food industry and how important it is for me to build relevant soft skills in order to be well-prepared for a career in the food industry."

“The career talks were very beneficial and informative as they helped me gain a deeper insight into the different areas in the food industry, further fuelling my interest in food science.”
