Food Science and Technology students won The Big Foodivate Challenge 2021

When Year 1 student from the Diploma in Food Science & Technology (DFST), Tan Rui En, saw the open invitation for “The Big Foodivate Challenge” in August 2021, she was excited and asked around for coursemates to form a team with her, but to no avail. Undeterred by this, Rui En took to social media platforms to look for like-minded students from other tertiary institutions to join her. With persistence, she finally found two team mates from the Singapore Institute of Technology to form Eggcellent Singapore Pte Ltd. One of her team mates is our DFST alumna, Heng Wan Hui, who graduated in 2020. Together, they put up a proposal as well as a convincing pitch on the conversion of food waste, like egg shells, into nutritious food ingredients which can be incorporated into any food product. With their project, they managed to clinch third place in the Food Process & Packaging Solution category.
