S’pore Poly ramps up industry training for students
19 Jan 2021
The Straits Times, 19 Jan 2021- SP has ramped up its industry training for some of its courses as part of a rethink on how students learn best. The polytechnic has piloted an Industry Now Curriculum pathway last year involving a small group of students from two diploma programmes -
10 from Information Technology and 23 from Perfumery & Cosmetic Science. Students on this track hit the ground running by working with companies on real-life industry projects in place of conventional classroom modules. This means that up to
half of their polytechnic workload over three years will be made up of work-based training, including internship. SP's Deputy Principal (Academic) Lim Peng Hun shared the challenges of the new curriculum and how it will benefit students. Students
Naomi Choa and Alyssia Teo from the Diploma in Perfumery & Cosmetic Science and the Diploma in Information Technology course, shared the benefits and challenges of working on real-world projects and being mentored by industry professionals
in place of conventional classroom modules.
