SoC alumni received prestigious scholarships

Xavier Low Jun Jie graduated from the Diploma in Business Information Technology (DBIT) in 2020. He has just received the Public Service Commission Scholarship to further his study in Information Systems in Singapore Management University.

Xavier shared about his SP journey:

"Having no coding experience before entering Polytechnic, going into a coding related course was definitely a risky move! However, my worries quickly faded when I realised how supportive my lectuers and peers were. SP also ensured a holistic education, allowing me to expand my computing skills whilst gaining opportunities to explore various subjects such as entrepreneurship, marketing, analytics, and even design and media. There were also many projects which allowed me to hone my leadership abilities.

After three years at SP, I would say that I have grown a lot as an individual. I have become more aware of my strengths, weaknesses and interests due to the wide array of subjects SoC taught me. That same self-awareness was also really helpful when it came to selecting my degree of choice in university and scholarship applications!"

Venus Lim Jia Yi graduated from the Diploma in Infocomm Security Management (DISM) in 2021. She has just received the DSTA Scholarship.

Venus shared about her SP journey:

“Through SP DISM’s curriculum, I have learnt more about the different aspects of cybersecurity. The curriculum offered by SP DISM has allowed me to explore on topics such as secure coding, cryptography, digital forensics, malware analysis, and security policies. The school projects gave me some hands-on experience, such as building web and mobile applications. These projects allow me to get a feel of how it is like to work on real-world applications. I also appreciate how the Final Year Project allows me to explore on a topic of my choice, giving me the flexibility to work on something that spark my interests.

As someone who had little knowledge in this field, SP DISM had definitely equipped me with the IT knowledge  and soft skills which have been really beneficial to me and has allow me to further my interests.”
