CLS students go serve@PETSCarenival

18 Nov 2014

The Diploma in Perfumery and Cosmetic Science (DPCS) Student Chapter took the lead to form a team of volunteers to participate in the Kim Seng Community Centre’s PETSCarenival event for 35 elderly living in the Chinatown area. It managed to recruit 32 students from its own diploma as well as Diplomas in Applied Chemistry with Pharmaceutical Science (DACP) and Materials Science (DMLS).

On 11 October 2014, the students interacted with the elderly through games such as Bingo and jigsaw puzzles. The biggest stars of the event were the cute rabbits and hamsters brought by other volunteers from Kim Seng Community Centre. The elderly had a lot of fun interacting with the little critters and, of course, with the students too!

As evident from the remarks below, the student volunteers had many valuable takeaways from the experience.

"Through PETScarenival, I've learnt a lot from the elderly. Also, I've learnt to be kind and responsible through taking care of the pets before bringing the pets to the elderly."

"I'm very thankful and glad to be able to take part in this event, where I can interact with the elderly as well as my schoolmates! This event helps us to get to know each other better and tighten our bonds."
