SP students have developed an AI system that uses dashcam footage to mark road hazards

AI Singapore (AISG) and the Infocomm Media Development Authority jointly organised the AI Student Developers Conference on 11 May. The conference showcased innovative AI solutions developed by local students. Students from SP have developed an artificial intelligence system that can quickly identify cracks or potholes on the road based on footage captured by dashcams. The system marks these locations on an online map to alert other drivers, thereby improving road safety. This project was supervised by Steven Ng (黄义勤), a lecturer from SP's School of Computing. In an interview with Lianhe Zaobao, he mentioned that the students spent one semester developing this system. The system uses a deep learning model to meticulously analyse dashcam footage to identify cracks or potholes on the roads. It also utilises the OneMap API from the Singapore Land Authority to accurately locate these safety hazards.
