School of Computing students wins 1st Runner-Up in PolyFinTech100 API Hackathon Grand Finals

Team rm -rf* the School of Computing won the 1st Runner-Up in the Grand Finals of the PolyFinTech100 API Hackathon. The team competed against the other four Category Champions in the Singapore FinTech Festival held at Singapore Expo on 16 Nov 2023.

PolyFintech 100 API Hackathon is an annual inter-poly competition aims at promoting fintech skills among students. This year, since the preliminary round, more than 700 students from five polytechnics participated in five categories. Team rm -rf* stood out in the Generative AI Category sponsored by Singlife. Their project, “SINGen”, was conceived to address a critical challenge in the financial sector: information overload and decision anxiety that customers face when exploring insurance products. The team developed an innovative solution that leverages the capabilities of a custom Large Language Model (LLM). “SINGen” is an Infomercial Generation AI designed to create personalised, short-form videos based on Singlife’s product range. This tool is a game-changer for financial advisors, enabling them to engage with customers more effectively with tailored advice.

“One of the most valuable aspects of this experience was the chance to communicate and collaborate with industry professionals from Singlife and Microsoft. This collaboration not only enhanced our technical skills but also provided us with invaluable insights into developing robust tech solutions that align with business use cases in the financial space.”
