Our Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DEEE) students Chryston Chua and Neo Yizhe won the Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award 2018.

The duo won the prestigious award with their innovative use of technology – a low power wide area network (LPWAN) technology to develop a tracking device to help dementia patients and their caregivers.

Yizhe shares the inspiration behind the project – his late grandmother. "My late grandmother suffered from dementia for 12 years. I remember an occasion when she went out with my grandfather, and he came back alone and flustered. Our family panicked and scrambled to find her. This is a common challenge faced by many caregivers and I hope that the tracker will help lighten their load.”
