23 Sep 2014

Congratulations to Cheng Huimin, Lu Jiale, Wang Wei Xiang Sylvester and Muhammad Taufik Bin Johari of the Diploma in Aerospace Electronics (DASE) course for clinching the 3rd Prize at the Autonomous Aerial Vehicle Challenge 2014 held in Bangkok from 17 to 19 September. The challenge was organized by the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF). The team was led by EEE lecturer Mr Danny Lee and supported by research engineers, Mr Wong Tze Lin and Mr Ong Yeow Teng. A total of 17 teams from Singapore, Korea and Thailand participated in the Challenge. Team SP Aero is the only polytechnic team among the university teams and also the only foreign team to win an award. The team built a fully autonomous quadcopter to fly at 60m height, orbit around a 100m radius at around 80km/hr, take 6 aerial images at given GPS waypoints and drop a 50g payload at a designated spot accurately. Well done!
