DEEE students clinched Silver Award at i-CREATe 2016 Innovation Challenge

The DEEE team was among the 19 student teams who participated in the Challenge to develop creative and innovative devices or solutions to improve the quality of living of the elderly and people with disability, and to improve the quality of professional practice in rehabilitation. The teams included those from the University of Malaya, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, Singapore Institute of Technology and the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. The international judges for the competition were from Australia, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Singapore.
The system developed by the DEEE students detects the eye ball movement and mirrors it on the computer screen. By just looking at the computer monitor, the disabled is able to:
- Express his/her daily needs (e. g. food, drinks etc.) easily with caregivers, and send message to them when they are not around.
- Have an active social life. He/she can surf internet, communicate with others through various social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, blog and WhatsApp, as well as through phone messages without the help of caregivers.
- Have self-entertainment. He/she can watch online TV/videos, listen to online radio and play computer games.
- Wirelessly control home devices such as light, curtain and fan.
