2 EEE teams competed against 38 varsity teams to emerge winners in the Singapore (BOS) Hackathon 2019, Institute Category. Organised jointly by AWS, Government Technology Agency (GovTech) and the National University of Singapore (NUS), the hackathon challenged students from the institutes of higher learning to build solutions for real world problems using AWS products and services.  The teams had to present to a panel of esteemed judges from GovTech, Singtel, SPH, AWS and NUS.

Team Meow, comprising DCPE students, won the Grand Prize and was crowned Champion in the hackathon while Team GoalDiggers, comprising DCPE, DASE and EA students, won the First-Runner Up and Viewers’ Choice Award.

Team Meow took on the challenge statement “Smart Education: Architecting Stackable Credentials.” Using Nexus, which is an Online to Offline (O2O) learning platform, the team developed a prototype to connect the talent supply to job vacancies fuelled by companies thriving in the industry. It pioneered an ArtificiaI Intelligence/Machine Learning approach to recommend learners to knowledge domains, and ensure learners were gainfully employed by meeting the requirements of industry.

Team GoalDiggers took on the challenge statement “Road Traffic Safety Regulatory and Compliance Measures.” The team created PMDiquette, an AWS sumerian powered VR based PMD safety training simulator, through which PMD users would go through various stages, going from learning the rules of safe and responsible PMD riding to practising their riding skills in a virtual environment before commissioning.

The winning teams walked away with trophies, medals, and products sponsored by AWS, and Intel.
