EEE team Ist Runner-Up at BusTech Grand Challenge

25 Nov 2023

EEE team, Spark Shifters, was Ist runner-up for the annual BusTech Grand Challenge on 25 Nov 2023. They competed against IHLs such as SIT, other polytechnics and ITE. The competition was organised by Singapore Bus Academy, an LTA academy that offers training to the workforce in the public transport sector.

Participants were required to fabricate and demonstrate a BMS (Battery Management System) for a 4S2P configuration of 18650 batteries. The prototype developed by the team included a Raspberry Pi-based BMS hardware (which satisfied most competition requirements), a local (Node-RED) dashboard (for the bus driver), and a central (MQTT + MySQL + Grafana) dashboard (for the headquarter staff to monitor the batteries in a fleet of buses). The prototype would help users to monitor and control the 4S2P battery pack in operation. For their effort, they received $3000 in cash prize and a trophy from Mr. Chew Hong Tat, Acting Minister for Transport.

The students were guided by Chong Siew Ping and Clement Chew. Details of the students are as follows:
