EEE team won the topmost award at the 13th International Standards Olympiad

A total of 140 students took part in the 13th International Standards Olympiad held at Yongin City, Korea from 8 to 10 Aug 2018. There were 108 students from Korea and 32 students from 9 different countries such as China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Peru, Rwanda, Ecuador and Bhuta, participated in this year’s competition.

The competition is to promote awareness among youths on the importance of standardization for convenience and safety. During the competition, the participating teams will produce a real model and a portfolio to showcase the application of 3 standardization principles (uniformity, simplicity, compatibility) while they fulfilled tasks related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. There are two categories in this competition: Middle and High Schools.

A team of 3 EEE students had participated in the High School category. They had created an Arduino autonomous vehicle that follows a curvy path and able to navigate around obstacles.  The design, implement and operate skills, programming skills and Engineering Academy Programme that our students go through in their Year 1 and 2 course curriculum have helped them to be better prepared for this competition.

Our heartiest congratulations to Norton Ng Chu Xun (DCPE Year 2), Chai Wei Lynthia (DEEE Year 2) and  Tan Whye Hong Brandon (DCPE Year 2 and also a student in the Engineering Academy Programme)!

Our kudos to the staff who had provided guidance and coached the trios for this competition: Mr Than Keng Hwa, Mr Goh Say Seng and Mdm Voon Ching Choo!
