SHOWCASE OF INNOVATIONS AT 2017 SP ENGINEERING SHOW

94 Final Year Student (FYP) groups had the chance to display their projects at the recent SP Engineering Show (SPES) 2017 held from 19 to 20 Jan 2017 at the Eleven2.  The annual exhibition provided an interactive platform for our final year students from 6 academic schools - School of Architecture & Built Environment (ABE), School of Chemical & Life Sciences (CLS), School of Digital Media & Infocomm Technology (DMIT), School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), School of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering (MAE) and the Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) - to present their engineering solutions to real-life problems, to share the challenges they faced while working on the projects, and to receive feedback and advice from industry partners.

Of the 60 booths where the projects were displayed, 22 featured projects in collaboration with the industries and 5 had projects which were multidisciplinary in nature.  6 projects were research projects from the Department of Technology, Innovation and Enterprise (TIE) to showcase the capability of our staff. This year’s show included, for the first time, Fablab and DMIT projects, FIRC food sampling, use of social media to promote SPES to SP students, outreach activities for secondary school students and distribution of promotional leaflets during SP Open House 2017.

A total of 1430 industry participants and students from secondary schools and SP year 2 classes visited the show. The show received good media coverage from 7 articles published in newspapers, 3 broadcast clips and 4 online news.
