12 Jul 2016

4 final year students, Lai Yan Ting, Samuel Joo Jian Wen, Siau Shang Le, and Wang Wei Xiang Sylvester from the Diploma in Aerospace Electronics (DASE) course participated in the “Aviation Safety Competition” (Category A) organised by the Singapore Institute of Aerospace Engineers (SIAE) and sponsored by Airbus & SIA Engineering Company on 19 May 2016. The competition was launched with a series of lectures and talks conducted by industry experts as well as visits to aviation facilities so that participants could get a feel of the real life of the components of the aviation industry such as aircraft and airport operations. Examples and case studies in flight operations and tracking were included in lectures.

The theme of the competition was “Safe Skies.” Students, in teams of 3 to 5, were required to select a case, related to the topic, for analysis and presentation. Vying with 5 other teams from Ngee Ann Poly, Temasek Poly and NTU, the DASE team, under the supervision of Mike Ong, won second place in the competition. The 4 students were each presented with a $50 voucher by the organiser for their achievements.
