Passion made them excel in studies

10 May 2016

Nurfarzana Saini, SP’s Diploma in Engineering Systems (DES) gold medallist, applied for the DES course because she was drawn to its unique mix of mechanical engineering, electronic engineering and social sciences modules. Her internship at the Land Transport Authority gave her an opportunity to deepen the skills and knowledge she had acquired in her course. It allowed her to learn a new programming language and the chance to help test the new Downtown Line. Nurfarzana will be furthering her studies in Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore after graduating with a GPA of 3.96.

Lionel Lee, who will be graduating from SP’s Diploma in Aerospace Electronics, suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism. Though his condition hindered his ability to relate with others, it proved to be a blessing in disguise. His Asperger’s syndrome was instrumental in growing his passion for mathematics as it helped him to focus specifically on details. Mathematics has been his love since primary school as he enjoys the logic behind numbers and feels powerful when he is able to solve a math problem. Lionel has recently been accepted into Nanyang Technological University’s Mathematical Sciences programme.
