Startups Cloud Hackathon

SP team comprising three SP students, Timothy Liau Ke Qin from DCPE Y3 (EEE), Rachel Tan from DAAA Y3 (SOC), and Jamie Yau from DBA Y3 (SB), emerged as 2nd Runner-Up in the Google for Startups Cloud Hackathon Singapore 2022, after the final pitch held on 10 Jun 22. Organised by Google, the hackathon is open to start-ups and students from Singapore Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to showcase their solutions that cover the following key topics using Google Cloud technologies: AI & Machine Learning, Sustainability, Automation of Tools, and the New Normal.

The team showcased their prototype of Empathly marketed as the digital conscience for online conversations. This software will help companies promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace. For online platforms, Empathly also provides tools that trust and safety teams can incorporate to protect their users from toxic behaviour.

eam leader, Timothy, did not wish to divulge further details on this project as the team plans to run private beta tests to gather customer feedback and improve Empathly. Kudos to SP team for having the passion to take their project beyond the competition realm to refine it for possible commercialisation. This embodies the spirit of the CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate) framework that EEE espouses. Let us wish them success in their endeavours.
