5G Radio Access Network, based on 5G RAN architecture such as Distributed RAN and Centralized RAN Architecture, is considered to be an important topic for technical professionals and business executives in understanding the key benefits and opportunities for 5G technologies such as 5G RAN slicing. If you are curious to find out what common 5G RAN terms like “flexible numerology” and “dynamic TDD” mean; how to plan for network design; where and what are the latest use case examples and applications of 5G RAN deployments both locally and overseas - then this is the perfect course for you.

In collaboration with 5G industry leader Ericsson, this 5G course will give participants a vendor-agnostic understanding of the fundamentals of radio concepts associated with the new radio access. Participants will receive first-hand experience on 5G with practical hands-on sessions on a live 5G network.

As 5G technology is rapidly being deployed in Singapore and worldwide, it is poised to push the boundaries of the various industries. There will be need for a large pool of the workforce involved in adopting, deploying and developing various applications using 5G technology in the industry by gaining a clear and practical understanding of the 5G Radio Access Network. This is a course suitable for a wide range of roles such as Network Engineer, RF Engineer, Software Engineer, Automation & Orchestration Engineer and much more.

Course Objective

This course objective is to provide participants with a vendor agnostic knowledge on the evolution of 5G technology and the requirements as we enter 5G. Participants will gain an understanding of 5G RAN concepts, primary key technology areas, its architecture, requirements and applications, benefits and deployment scenario.

Participants will understand 5G RAN architecture and its key technologies. How to apply 5G as a technology to a typical operations environment. Analyze key radio principles and concepts like Massive MIMO, beamforming, Ultra Lean Design & Dynamic TDD and examine use cases.

By completing the Overview course with 2 other courses (including this) in the 5G Industry course series, participants will be awarded with the SP Ericsson 5G Industry Practitioner Certificate.

Course Outline

The course will be delivered through a combination of lectures, practical demonstration, hands-on simulation and interactive workshop.

By the end of the Course, learners will be able to:

- Describe the term 5G RAN
- List the 5G targets and technology areas
- Explain and analyse the Distributed RAN and Centralized RAN Architecture.
- Apply the main principles and concept of MIMO
- Describe the Elastic RAN Architecture.
- Explain the Security concepts and Evolved Quality of Service in 5G RAN.
