Next generation sequencing (NGS) is being transformative for the practice of clinical biology, and the high efficiency in sequencing mean that this will become a viable technology in diagnostic and research laboratories in the near future. The technology offers the advantage of higher sensitivity and the potential to detect the microbial gene and genomes, including unknown and unexpected strains. In view of the robust advantages of NGS, we aim to introduce the technology to potential or current NGS users.

Course Objective

This module aims to introduce the latest technologies in clinical diagnostics. Emphasis will be on understanding the methodologies and hands-on experience on the use of uprising diagnostics techniques to diagnose or monitor diseases.

• Hands-on Training on Using NGS workflow
• Apply NGS Technologies

Each participant is advised to bring along a laptop with the following specs for this 2 days course.
• CPU: over 2GHz or higher
• Windows/Mac System
• RAM: 8G or more, 16 GB will be better
• HD space: 100GB for HG19 database, another 200GB for NGS data storage & calculation

Minimum Requirements

Diploma in Science or Engineering, degree or higher degree

Certification / Accreditation

• Certificate of Attendance (electronic Certificate will be issued)
A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who meet at least 75% attendance rate

Can be used to form part of the PDC (Upcoming PDC in Advanced Diagnostics)
