The SP Media, Arts and Design School is pleased to introduce our Specialist Diploma in Applied Drama & Psychology (NSADP). This is a course we offer to enable working professionals in the education and social service settings to deepen their skills set in a new knowledge domain as part of their journey in being a life-long learner. This part-time course can be completed in one year.
The NSADP course aims to deepen the skills and knowledge of professionals from the social service sector who do community engagement work. It equips learners with a deeper understanding of the issues that emerge during the human lifespan, current trends that feature in today’s society and skills to design and manage effective community programmes that use applied drama as an engagement tool. By the end of the course, learners will have an understanding of:
- How community engagement programmes can be framed and designed ethically and sustainably
- The psychological developments of an age related community
- Drama based techniques and how to facilitate them
- How to reflect on one’s own practice using a reflective framework
The course consists of six modules conducted over two semesters within one academic year. There will be a combination of e-learning and face-to-face sessions for the psychology modules.
Applied drama lessons are experiential and collaborative in nature and commitment to the sessions are required. All applied drama sessions will be conducted as in class lessons.
Students with prior experience in psychology or applied drama may write into request for exemption to modules, with exemption being granted on a case to case basis.
This course consists of 2 Post Diploma Certificates (PDCs). Each PDC will consist of three modules. The details are as follow:

Module 2 – Engaging Seniors with Drama
Module 3 – Creative Approaches to Community Engagement
PDC 2 Certificate in Applied Psychology & Programme Management

Module 5 – Community Psychology

Applicants who are not able to commit to the time required for the full specialist diploma may choose to take individual modules. Credits earned from the modular learning can be accumulated to gain a full specialist diploma qualification within 2-year validity period.
