Course Objective

This course is a pre-requisite module to Specialist Diploma in Workplace Safety and Health.

This course aims to address the need for Workplace Safety and Health Supervisor and Workplace Safety and Health Coordinator to manage operational issues associated with the controls and put in place appropriate risk control measures in the construction industry.

Course Outline

In alignment with Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC), at the end of the course, participants will be able to: 
• Interpret the requirements on legal requirements on WSH (Construction) Regulations 2007.
• Interpret the various types of scaffolds, the associated hazards, control measures and its legal requirements.
• Interpret the various methods of excavation, the associated hazards, control measures and its legal requirements.
• Analyse the associated hazards & control measures while working at height and its legal requirements.
• Interpret the components of fall prevention plan.
• Formulate the requirements on necessary actions under the relevant legislation and Code(s) of Practice working in confined spaces and the necessary control measures for safe working in confined spaces.
• Formulate the requirements on necessary actions under the relevant legislation and the necessary control measures for demolition work.
• Relate the important and procedures in conducting site inspections at the workplace.
• Formulate the requirements on necessary actions under the relevant legislation and the necessary control measures for lifting operation at the construction site.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet any of the following entry requirement that are aligned to that for Specialist Diploma in Workplace Safety and Health.

Track 1
  • A recognised Technology/Science-related diploma / Engineering degree; AND
  • At least 2 years of WSH relevant working experience

OR

Track 2
  • Possess ES Workplace Literacy (Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking) Level 6 or GCE 'O' Level English grade C6; AND
  • Possess ES Workplace Numeracy Level 6 or GCE'O' Level Maths grade C6, or Mathematics bridging course; AND
  • Possess GCE 'O' Level Science (Physics) grade C6, or Physics bridging course; AND
  • Possess WSH skills and knowledge equivalent to that of Advanced Certificate in WSH; AND
  • At least 2 years of post-qualification3 working experience as WSH Supervisor, Coordinator or similar occupational role

OR

Track 3
  • Possess ES Workplace Literacy (Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking) Level 6 or GCE 'O' Level English grade C6; AND
  • Possess ES Workplace Numeracy Level 6 or GCE 'O' Level Maths grade C6, or Mathematics bridging course; AND
  • Possess GCE 'O' Level Science (Physics) grade C6, or Physics bridging course; AND
  • Possess WSH skills and knowledge equivalent to that of Advanced Certificate in WSH; AND
  • At least 5 years of WSH-related working experience, 2 years of which should be recent working experience, for example as a WSH Supervisor / Coordinator

Certification / Accreditation

Statement of Attainment (Applicable for WSQ courses)
  • A Statement of Attainment for each module will be awarded to participants who pass the assessment and meet at least 75% attendance rate
  • Participants will be able to download their Statement of Attainment from MySkillsFuture Portal here.
