Diploma in Optometry (DOPT - S67)

OVERVIEW

The Diploma in Optometry (DOPT) course is a three-year program designed to produce professionally competent optometrists. The course recognizes the importance of good eye health, eyesight and the impact it has once it is lost, and therefore aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide quality eye care services.

The scope of optometry includes managing refractive errors such as myopia and presbyopia, detecting common eye diseases, and correcting vision through spectacle and contact lens correction. Our students receives training on state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge technologies within the field of optometry to ensure they are equipped with the latest skills and knowledge to serve the optical industry of tomorrow.

Upon graduation, our students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to become licensed optometrists registered with the Optometrists and Opticians Board (OOB), governed by Ministry of Health. This opens up a world of possibilities for graduates, who can choose to work in a variety of settings, including community optometry clinics, ophthalmology clinics, hospitals, multinational manufacturing companies, or research institutions. For those with entrepreneurial aspirations, the option to start and run their own optometric practice is also available. Many of our DOPT alumni have taken this path and have successful optometry practices of their own.
