DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (DBA - S71)

WHAT YOU'LL STUDY

The SP Business Administration Course is a three-year full-time programme.  In your first year, you will build a strong foundation in business studies taught through engaging pedagogies such as act-learn-build, design thinking, flipped classroom and case-based methods.  At the end of your first year, you will have the freedom to choose from three options, each dealing with a broad base of industries.  In your second year, you will deepen your skills and expertise in your chosen option whilst enhancing your business fundamentals and developing sought-after skills in business analytics, digital marketing, business operations and design thinking. Your third year is when you thrive. You will work on applied industry projects and embark on exciting internships with our industry partners who are passionate about grooming new talent.

All these will help develop you into a successful ‘T-Shaped’ graduate with depth of expertise in your respective specialties and breadth of business knowledge across essential business disciplines. The three options offered to enhance student’s skills and competencies are:

Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Innovation & Entrepreneurship is a key pillar to drive Singapore’s economy. Small and medium enterprises make up more than 99% of all registered businesses and employ 70% of the total workforce in Singapore.

The Innovation & Entrepreneurship (IE) specialisation attracts students that are focused and resilient.  Students take specialisation modules and immerse themselves in the entrepreneurial ecosystem early from Year 2. They will develop their entrepreneurial mind-sets, strengthen business acumen and learn practical skills to enable them to start and run their own businesses.  One unique advantage of the specialisation is the opportunity to start and run an actual business through the Entrepreneurship Practicum in Year 3.

Students will sharpen their strategic thinking skills and risk-taking capabilities besides learning fundamental knowledge in marketing, e-commerce and business development to grow and sustain businesses for the long-term. Student entrepreneurs also benefit from possible financing, and access to mentorship from industry practitioners and angel investors.

There will be ample opportunities for value-adding exposures such as participating in exhibitions, fairs, hackathons, competitions and overseas immersion trips.

IE graduates with these skill-sets can confidently run their own or family businesses, while others are sought-after by diverse organisations including start-ups, social enterprises and MNCs, that value talents who can turn ideas or projects into successful endeavours!

Digital Marketing & Branding (DMB)

Marketing & Branding is an important function for all businesses.  It helps businesses to create a positive brand image to attract and retain customers.   Through the Digital Marketing & Branding (DMB) specialisation modules, students gain hands-on exposure designing creative marketing campaigns for digital and social media platforms to enable companies to differentiate and outperform their competitors in an increasingly crowded marketplace. Students will also learn customers’ buying patterns and their decision making processes to customise product offerings to engage and reach out to them.

DMB graduates will gain the essential skills to enter the workforce confidently as marketing executives and pursuing a range of careers such as digital marketing, social media marketing, events management, advertising and public relations.

International Trade & Operations (ITO)

International trade is critical for Singapore’s economic growth and long-term prosperity as Singapore is the preferred business hub for multinational companies and a major port in Asia.

To support these activities, companies need talents to run critical International Trade & Operations (ITO) functions such as global purchasing, logistics, inventory management and business process improvements and automation. These vital tasks and activities keep businesses running smoothly and efficiently to maximise its profits.

ITO students will learn key skills to improve and streamline the processes and operations of a company.  These include harnessing the power of data, artificial intelligence and automation to drive efficient business processes. The modules focused on hands-on applications together with training students’ analytical and problem-solving skills.

ITO graduates will gain the essential skills to enter the workforce confidently as executives in diverse areas such as operations management, project management, supply chain management, procurement, and quality management.

It provided me with an excellent base and propelled my career to greater heights. The Entrepreneurship option equipped me with critical thinking skills, essential business acumen and motivation to start my own business! Beyond the academics, the SP brand is well regarded globally as Singapore's first polytechnic, and afforded me exposure to international conferences and competitions."
